Diet Plan - February 21st, 2010

Today was our first day on a new diet. The general goal is to see how much weight we can lose and how changing our eating habits effects how we feel.

The diet is based on an article that Tim Ferris posted (which is here), which is based on the diet of an incredible athlete: http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/15.01/ultraman.html . That is a very inspirational article that you should read.

It is a low calorie and low fat diet. You eat meats/protein (egg whites, chicken, beef, fish or pork), legumes (beans) and vegetables. The general idea is that you want to eat the same meals over and over again, but you can mix and match the items. This will speed up your metabolism and burn more calories. Also, we can't drink anything that contains calories.

The kicker that made this plan attractive was how you can eat whatever you want to eat one day a week. This is great motivation for my personality because this will keep me motivated.

It takes about 3500 calories to burn 1 pound of fat. Following the above diet and working out should allow you to burn at least 5 lbs a week, if not more than that if you workout.

Today was the first day on the plan. It went very well and we were pleasantly surprised in how much we enjoyed the meals. My stomach seems to be a little disturbed, probably with how much vegetables I ate today (which I am not used to), and I seem to "feel" hungry throughout the day even though I ate a lot. I really enjoyed the Salmon we had for dinner, and Harlo liked it too.

My body is used to eating so much more calories in a day (especially when I workout), that I think it is going to take at least a week or two for my body to adjust to the new diet. If things go as planned, I am hoping to be down to my ideal weight with more lean muscle within a month.
