Is organization genetic?

It may seem like a weird question, but based on my experience....I'm beginning to think that organization could very well be genetic.

It is very apparent to me that there are some people who just want to wake up, go to work and go home....without really worrying about how good of a job they do. In other words...people who don't really care about getting better at what they do.

I honestly don't get why people would not want to get better at what they do. The more that I think about it, the more I think it just comes down to laziness. People don't like thinking about and working on their weaknesses. I do think it is valid to focus on our strengths, but to think that we are going to 100% of the time be able to only work on the things we are good at, is ignorant.

I'm definitely not claiming to be an expert at this, but I'm just extremely bothered when I witness apathy in the job arena. I think the biggest problem I have with this is that it not only prevents their growth in the company and their own knowledge base/productivity (including wage and benefits), but it also causes more work for other people.

This idea has come up before, but it is especially on my mind as I pursue a career in freelance web programming. If I'm not organized and if I do not have a very good work ethic, I probably won't make it.

What's Happening

This weekend Andrea and I will be going to Helena to look for apartments. We have quite a few lined up and are pretty excited.

I just registered a few other domains, that I will be revealing shortly.

I've got a few things brewing that I'm pretty excited about. One of which I'm considering moving my blog to a different domain. In any case, I'm probably going to switch to Wordpress so I can customize the site more. I will also be putting DeskJobFitness.com on wordpress as well.

Prepare for Fitness!!!!

I bought deskjobfitness.com the other day. Prepare for a blog dedicated to staying in shape for those of us who have desk jobs!

My main purpose of this domain is to try to get back into the search engine game and to give me some motivation in staying fit!

I will post here when the domain launches.

Website Ideas

I've spent some time doing research on creating profitable websites. Come to find out this topic seems to be pretty popular on the internet (in other words I'm not the only one doing research on this).

Below is my plan of attack:

- Do a lot of research and come up with a list of possible website ideas. I will also base my ideas on keyword research in figuring out which ideas I think have the best chance of being the most profitable. I will also be talking to friends and family for possible ideas.

- Choose the top 5 website ideas out of that list. Work on launching the first idea by choosing a domain name.

- Find an affordable host where I can host my websites for relatively cheap.

- Put the content/programming together. Then look into promoting the site.

At first I was kind of dissapointed by the mass amounts of websites that are out there right now. But then I realized that the Internet is still a pretty new industry and there are probably an infinite amount of ideas or categories that have not been fully tapped yet.

Roanelander - Videos

I spent the time to post four more Roanelander videos to my facebook and to YouTube. I included them below.

Web Programming

I think it is time to expand my horizon. I've worked with PHP for almost 10 years now and I started getting into the OO stuff about 4 years ago. But I think it would do me some good to learn other languages.

I can work with Javascript on a basic level and I've done some AJAX stuff. I might look into Ruby on Rails or maybe even jump into some Microsoft stuff (I've written a few web applications in C# and ASP .NET 2.0, but haven't done a ton of work with it).

I also think I am going to try to launch some websites. I'm not sure where this will lead to, but it has been something that has been burning inside of me for the last three years....I put together websites for other people, and with all the experience I have...why not launch a few of my own and see what I can do? I got a few ideas that I might pursue, and I want to do a lot of research before I launch any of them.

If you have any cool ideas for a website, just let me know and we might be able to partner up.

Also, if you know of any useful Open Source development tools, please let me know. Below are ones that I recently found out about:
  • Notepad++ (text/programming editor)
  • FileZilla (FTP)

Roanelander - Walk Off Scene

Well I finished editing Roanelander. I will probably post a few more clips within the next week. I will also be making a DVD version of Roanelander video and the 180 Archive Video.

You can view the video below, or you can click this link.
